I am on temporary assignment covering a sick teacher at a local high school. At lunch yesterday the Army had a table for interested seniors to learn about options. They told me that they were offering options in both the regular Army and the Army Reserves. They were offering special enlistment bonuses for the Reserves since they are currently in lay offs for the regular Army.
We talked about the fact that the Army Reserves are the ones who are called up first for combat. I asked if they warned students about this. They said they were not authorized to talk about this since it was not guaranteed.
If you have a son or daughter considering the US Army as a career out of high school, please suggest they take it serious enough to go in to the Regular Army. The Reserves always sounds cushy to people with it being a Part-Time deal, OR SO IT SEEMS.
