DOD Identifies Marine Casualty

                The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Nicholas S. O’Brien, 21, of Stanley, N.C., died June 9 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, IMarine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Did you know David, Bradley, Lamoral and Cheizray? We pray for their families, loved ones and friends in their tremendous losses. We thank their families for their service and their ultimate sacrifice. God Bless them all!
 
DOD Identifies Army Casualties

               The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of four soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

               They died May 16, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit using an improvised explosive device in Zabul province, Afghanistan.

               Killed were:

              Staff Sgt. David D. Self, 29, of Pearl, Miss.  He was assigned to the Fires Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany; also,

               Spc. Bradley L. Melton, 29, Rolla, Mo.; 

               Pvt. Lamarol J. Tucker, 26, of Gainesville, Fla.; and

               Pvt. Cheizray Pressley, 21, of North Charleston, S.C. 

They were assigned to the Brigade Troops Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Anchorage, Alaska.

              Spc. Richard C. Emmons III, 22, of North Granby, Conn., died May, 31, in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.

DOD Identifies Army Casualty

            The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

            1st Lt. Robert F. Welch III, 26, of Denton, Texas, died April 3 in Khost province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his base with indirect fire.  He was assigned to the 201st Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox, Ky.

DOD Identifies Army Casualties

            The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.  They died April 4 of wounds suffered from small arms fire in Faryab province, Afghanistan.  The incident is under investigation.

Killed were:

Staff Sgt. Scott H. Burgess, 32, of Franklin, Texas.

Staff Sgt. Michael S. Lammerts, 26, of Tonawanda, N.Y.

They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Baumholder, Germany.

UPDATE:  April 6, 2011 — Sgt. Burgess was posthumously promoted to staff sergeant.

UPDATE:  April 7, 2011 — Sgt. Lammerts was posthumously promoted to staff sergeant.

DOD Identifies Army Casualty

            The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

            Staff Sgt. Eric S. Trueblood, 27, of Alameda, Calif., died March 10 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.  He was assigned to the 391st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 16th Sustainment Brigade, Spinelli Barracks, Mannheim, Germany.

DOD Announces Recruiting and Retention Numbers for August 2010

The Department of Defense announced today its recruiting and retention statistics for the active and reserve components for August 2010.

 - Active Component. 100 percent 

               - Recruiting.  All four active services met or exceeded their accession goals for August 2010. 

              - Army – 6,608 accessions with a goal of 6,524; 101 percent

              – Navy – 2,952 accessions with a goal of 2,952; 100 percent

              – Marine Corps — 4,309 accessions with a goal of 4,309; 100 percent

              – Air Force – 3,043 accessions with a goal of 3,043; 100 percent

              – Retention.  Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force retention is near or above the fiscal year-to-date goals for the first 11 months of the fiscal year. 

Reserve Component. 

               – Recruiting.  Four of the six Reserve components intentionally did not make 100 percent of their August recruiting goals to stay within end strength constraints. 

              – Army National Guard — 4,367 accessions with a goal of 6,292; 69 percent

              – Army Reserve — 1,786 accessions with a goal of 1,792; 99 percent

              – Navy Reserve – 714 accessions with a goal of 714; 100 percent

              – Marine Corps Reserve – 309 accessions with a goal of 541; 57 percent

              – Air National Guard – 523 accessions with a goal of 576; 91 percent

              – Air Force Reserve – 824 accessions with a goal of 521; 158 percent

              -  Attrition.  Losses in all Reserve components are within acceptable limits.

The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of five soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.  They died Aug. 30 in the Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device.  All were based at Fort Carson, Colo. 

                 Killed were:

Capt. Dale A Goetz, 43, of Hood River, S.D.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Staff Sgt. Jesse Infante, 30, of Cypress, Texas.  He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Staff Sgt. Kevin J. Kessler, 32, of Canton, Ohio.  He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Staff Sgt. Matthew J. West, 36, of Conover, Wis.  He was assigned to the 71st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group.

Pfc. Chad D. Clements, 26, of Huntington, Ind.  He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Ide, 32, of Festus, Mo., died Aug. 29 at Hyderabad, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire.  He was assigned to the 230th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Sembach, Germany.

Robinson, 27, of Lebanon, Ohio, died Aug. 28 at Paktika, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

                 Killed were:

                 Pfc. Chad D. Coleman, 20, of Moreland, Ga.

                 Pvt. Adam J. Novak, 20, of Prairie du Sac, Wis.

                 They were assigned to the 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

                 They died Aug. 29 at Nangahar, Afghanistan, of wound sustained when their military vehicle was struck by rocket propelled grenade on Aug. 28 at Nangahar, Afghanistan. 

                 Killed were:

                 Capt. Ellery R. Wallace, 33, of Utah. 

                 Pfc. Bryn T. Raver, 20, of Harrison, Ark.

                 Wallace was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

                 Raver was assigned to 1st Brigade Special Troop Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

            Killed were:

            Sgt. Steven J. Deluzio, 25, of South Glastonbury, Conn.

            Spc. Tristan H. Southworth, 21, of West Danville, Vt.

            They were assigned to the 172nd Infantry, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Jericho, Vt.

George took his eye off but at least we knew who he was after, Saddam Hussein.

Barack brought us back to Afghanistan but his eye is on Karzai (his friend), not the enemy that this all started for.

             The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

           Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Collin Thomas, 33, of Morehead, Ky., died Aug. 18 during a combat operation in eastern Afghanistan.  Thomas was assigned to an east coast-based SEAL team.

DOD Identifies Army Casualty

           The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

             Spc. Jamal M. Rhett, 24, of Palmyra, N.J., died Aug. 15 in Ba Qubah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with grenades.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Ten people — six Germans, two Americans and two Afghans — were killed by gunmen in Afghanistan about 15 days ago, police said Saturday.
