Casualty Does Not Equal Dead Casualties include three categories: 1) dead; 2) wounded; and 3) missing or captured. In general terms, casualties of Civil War battles included 20% dead and 80% wounded. Of the soldiers who were wounded, about one out of seven died from his wounds. Over 2/3 of the 622,000 men who gave their lives in the Civil War died from disease, not from battle. A Maryland Community College Nursing School does not “graduate” Hispanics, Asians or Immigrants Students.

They will take anyone’s money but according to new Technical Standards for Students, it sends a clear message NOT to apply. I would not expect non-English speaking patients (or doctors with accents) to find comfort in the County Hospital that takes graduates from this College. With no cultural diversity in the student body, I would think that racism and prejudice would set in sooner or later… if it’s not already there?

Each student must have the ability to read, write, comprehend and clearly speak the English language to facilitate communications with patients, their family members and other professionals in health care settings. In addition, the student must be able to maintain accurate patient records, present information in a professional, logical manner and provide patient counseling and instruction to effectively care for patients and their families. The student must clearly communicate effectively verbally and in writing with instructors and other students in the classroom setting as well.”

After research on the staff of the Nursing School it shows that all of the teachers are white caucasion. There is no diversity in the teaching staff which may suggest why they dont have the ability to communicate with students with accents.

Should Personal Toys be allowed in Public Schools?

Shepherdstown Elementary School has allowed students in the 4th Grade (possibly other grades also) to bring BeyBlades to school. At this time almost every child has one and brings them to school every day. The use of these toys has become an overwhelming occupation, to the extent that the school teachers have had to institute restrictions on how often they can use them.

The silly band craze has seemed to wear off substantially. Silly bands were different in that they were worn on kids wrists. They also seemed to be at every grade level. Even a number of teachers wore them and others gave them out as rewards for good behasviour in the class room. There were some issues when children wore so many of them on their wrists that it was bad for circulation. This fad seems to have faded.

Beyblades are now the in-thing. If you are not familar with them I am including a picture of one below.

So, what is Beyblade and where does it come from?

Beyblade (爆転シュート ベイブレード, Bakuten Shūto Beiburēdo^?) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Takao Aoki. Originally serialized in CoroCoro Comic from 2000 to 2002, the individual chapters were collected and published in 14 tankōbon volume by Shogakukan. The series focuses on a group of kids who form teams with which they battle one another using highly powerful spinning tops called “Beyblades” which are enchanted with magical spirits.

The manga is licensed for English language release in North America by Viz Media. The manga was adapted into a three season anime series. The first season, spanning 51 episodes, aired in Japan on TV Tokyo from January 8, 2001, to December 24, 2001. The second season, Beyblade V-Force, ran for another 51 episodes from January 7, 2002, until December 30, 2002. The third season, Beyblade G Revolution, also spanned 51 episodes (the 51st was a double-length special but was split into two episodes for the Western release) and ran from January 6, 2003, until its conclusion on December 29, 2003. The seasons are licensed by Nelvana for an English-language release in North America.

A new series of Beyblade has been released in 2009 (2010 in U.S.), entitled Beyblade Metal Fusion (known as Metal Fight Beyblade in Japan). It features a new cast of characters and Beyblades. A sequel series has also been released in 2010 (2011 in U.S.), called BeyBlade: Metal Masters.

Unlike Silly bands, Beyblades have movies, TV shows on Ninetndo, Wii, DS and other games that kids can buy. Their lives can be consumed by this fad which perhaps is why so many 4th Graders at Shepherdstown Elementary School are bringing them in to compete.

So, if they can bring Beyblades to school, what else can they bring to Shepherdstown Elementary?

I for one beleive children should not be allowed to bring any personal items to school, except possibly on a day set aside for kids sharing things with their classmates during class time. We called this “Show and Tell” in the old days…

How are Recovery Act moneys spent and are they helping the American People?!?

I took this pic from the main street as you enter Sharpsburg, Maryland. I did have the pleasure of traveling through the newly paved roads and parking lots of the National Park. According to the bid that was sent out by the Recovery Act procurement offices, this bid was estimated to cost the Federal Government between $3-8 MILLION!!!!!!!!!!

I am in the process of finding the lucky contractors that won this bid so I can determine how many unemployed people were put back to work. I did see the work crews on several occassions but they all looked like they were wearing NPS uniforms which makes me wonder.

With an enormous debt crises in this country I just dont understand the importance that Vice President Joe Biden, President Barack Obama and the rest of our illustrious leadership has put on paving roads in a battlefield area. The roads, by the way, prior to the resurfacing were no where as bad as the condition of bridges and main roads in towns around the country with their massive potholes. THIS WAS NOT NECESSARY.

I do hope to find out that this job put people BACK TO WORK! I doubt I will find this out though.

My day of lecturing at Shepherd University

I had the wonderful pleasure of being guest lecturer in two classes at Shepherd University today, located in the heart of Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

I presented a lecture I created just for this two-class occassion entitled International Business: Leave Your Ethics At Home. I had great fun sharing my knowledge about International Business and how Ethics and Codes of Conduct fit in the picture. The students were mostly junior Business Majors. Considering it was the first day back after Labor Day weekend I was surprised that all of my students were awake and raring to go for the class.

It is my hope that more teachers will hear about today’s lectures and garner an interest to have me come and speak at their classes. My resume on life and past experiences are well documented in my WordPress blog as well as on LinkedIn. Today’s subject was just a small part of my knowledge base in International Business.
